Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
Today is Easter Sunday - the most important day on the Christian Calendar. It is the day we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and His promise of New Life.
Here is the US, April is a time of new growth, warmer weather and a portend of the lazy days of summer ahead. As I drive around town the Dogwoods are in full bloom, as are a myriad of shrubs and trees, each bursting out with bud. The air is filled with pollen and seeds and the two cardinals (birds) by my pool are back again for another year in the Cushworth private game reserve. My cat thinks it is his private hunting preserve, but no matter how much a tries, he doesn't manage to catch much!
Though he has found where I keep my biltong though and it much easier for him to get some by sitting on my desk than trying to get it fresh out of the garden! He might be old but is is crafty!
Everyone has a story to tell and many people are writing a book. We constantly get emails from people asking if we will sell their book for them. Much as we would love to be able to do that, we often find that we cannot work something out and feel bad that we are not able to help.
Now, we have an answer.
What with iPads, Kindles, Nooks and goodness know how many other like devices there are, the world of digital publishing is upon us. We are able to help you get you book into an ePub or Kindle format and then sell it as a digital download. If you have a book written, or thinking of writing one, and would like us to market it for you as a digital book, then please just drop us an email. Technology is a wonderful thing and we might as well make it work for us all.
Please remember the Pensioners. We have updated the Pensioners page with information as to organizations you can support, as well as ones that we are involved with. Any donation is welcome, no matter who small or large, and every penny goes to their support.
Until next time
Thanks and Happy Easter
Dave Cushworth

HISTORY: A LOOK AT APRIL OVER THE YEARS
April. When the weather turned cooler, days of endless sunshine - Autumn returns to Rhodesia.
But April was a time of great and momentous events as the political power changed and new Prime Ministers were elected.
The Executive Council of 1978, Muzorewa in 1979 and finally Rhodesia ceased to exist in 1980.

PENSIONERS UPDATE
Memories of Rhodesia
is committed to supporting those old-age pensioners that are economic
prisoners in Zimbabwe. 10% of our revenue goes to this cause. Working
with Hope Unlimited, an established Christian organization, 100%
of all monies are channeled through them.
The funds are then donated
to various organizations who are doing a great job caring for the aged. The reports
we get back from Zimbabwe are extremely encouraging, knowing that
we (and that includes you) have kept some of our dear old folk
alive.

COMMUNITY SERVICES
|
Community & Customer
Services Notes
The Rhodesian
Community is unique. Connected through its common experience
of a beloved country and loyalties, it still demonstrates
that wonderful spirit of camaraderie and support. They are
some of the friendliest, warm-hearted people the world has
known. The bonds forged in the communities, large and small,
throughout Rhodesia, still hold strong today in this new
worldwide community.
We have been seeing a trend over recent
months where Rhodies find themselves in financial straits and are selling
off their memories, often for a mere pittance, just to survive. We have
always tried to give a fair price for anything we buy as we are only
too aware of the circumstances that drive people to sell their memories.
Please, if you know of someone who wants, or needs to sell their Rhodesian
items, get them to contact us first. We will gladly tell them what their
items are worth and will do what we can to make sure they get a fair
and equitable amount. We work with a number of other dealers around the
world and will make sure they do not get taken advantage of. |
