Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
We have all heard the adage "Life picks
up speed once you get over the hill !" If that is true then I must
really be getting on in years, or my hill is getting steeper! Seems
that my life has been gathering speed lately and before I know it we
are in the middle of August and I haven't done a newsletter for some
time! Add
to that some of those Senior Moments and well ... here we are!
(now what was I talking about?)
July and August are very hot and humid in
my part of the world, so I have found that it is a good time to go for
a
joll to Africa. The only trouble is, when I got to Joburg
it was literally freezing! -2C the first night. Talk about shock. But
yet there is still that special something about the continent that doesn't
take too long to get a hold of you. To me it is the sound of the
doves cooing when the sun comes up. Music to my ears and joy to
my soul. What is that little thing that got a hold of you,
or if you live there, that gets a hold of you? Drop
me a line and let me know please, I will then include it in our Memories
Section.
Since our very first day of business we
have been committed to helping out the Pensioners in need. We work
with a number of top class organizations that help meet the daily needs
of these dear people, who are so desperate and reliant on help. One
of the organizations we have come to know is The M'Dala Trust in Cape
Town. Headed by Leon Jacobs (former Maj. General I might add) they
do a sterling work with the needy of their Community. We
have included something about them in our Pensioners Update and we encourage
you to contact Leon and see how you can help. At least buy one
of the raffle tickets!
Everyone has a story to tell. Some
take a book, some just a few sentences or a couple of paragraphs. Whatever
the story is, there is a place for it. African History was
always passed on through the story tellers, and it is no different today. I
would like to encourage you to tell your story. We
are only too happy to record them in our Memories Section or, if you
want, help guide you to get something published. Either
way, let me encourage you to get it in writing. Please,
feel free to drop me a line!
Until next month

PENSIONER'S UPDATE
|
Latest
News from Africa
Memories of Rhodesia is committed to supporting
those old-age pensioners that are economic prisoners in Zimbabwe.
10% of our revenue goes to this cause. Working with Hope Unlimited,
an established Christian organization, 100% of all monies are
channeled through them. The funds are then donated to a number
of organizations doing a great job caring for the aged. The
reports we get back from Zimbabwe are extremely encouraging,
knowing that we (and that includes you) have kept some of our
dear old folk alive.
