Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
Rhodesians Never Die,
they just Inhabit the World! I have a friend of mine in Manila
who jokes that there is a Filipino in every country. He never
met the Rhodesians! Because
they are everywhere, even places any self-respecting Filipino wouldn't
go. I am continually surprised at the places our people keep popping
up in!
No matter where in the world we are, we
do share one very common trait - that of our country. The memories
that we have and the time and place that forged them, are a bond that
transcends international boundaries, ethnic or religious lines. Whether
you count yourself as Rhodesian or Zimbabwean, we came from the same
land and have something unique in common.
So from Iceland to South Africa,
The Philippines to Hawaii and all in between, we thank you for taking
time to stay in touch, for supporting the pensioners, for being who you
are - Rhodesians (& yes, Zimbo's too).
Thanks
Dave Cushworth

RANDOM
MEMORIES
Memory is both a fickle and wonderful thing. The ease with
which we can remember the good times, the pleasurable times and
forget the "yucky" times. What a great pleasure
is to be derived in delving back to those halcyon days, or at least
that is how they seem now, when life was different in a place tat
was different - in Rhodesia.
This month we focus on some random memories of life as we once
new it.

PENSIONER'S UPDATE
|
Latest News from Zimbabwe
Memories of Rhodesia is committed to supporting those old-age
pensioners that are economic prisoners in Zimbabwe. 10% of our
revenue goes to this cause. Working with Hope Unlimited, an established
Christian organization, 100% of all monies are channeled through
them. The funds are then donated to SOAP, which is doing a great
job caring for the aged. The reports we get back from Zimbabwe
are extremely encouraging, knowing that we (and that includes you)
have kept some of our dear old folk alive.
Thanks to your generosity we were able to send
a goodly amount to Zimbabwe this month. We appreciate the way that
so many of you have responded and continue to support this worthy
cause.

THIS MONTHS READING
|
 |
RAINBOWS END
I thought this was going be just another "chick flick" type of
book. Boy, was I wrong. It was one of the best stories
I have read in a long time. Honest, hilarious, truthful. exceptionally
well written and highly enjoyable. Then my wife
couldn't put it and my daughter, who was born in Rhodesia, laughed
so much and is thoroughly enjoying every bit of it.
A book that will appeal to every member of the family at all levels. A
truly wonderful read.

WHEN
A CROCODILE EATS THE SUN
When a Crocodile Eats the Sun is a story of the disintegration
of a family, set against the collapse of a country. Peter Godwin
is living in Manhattan when he returns to Zimbabwe, his birthplace,
having received the news that his father is dying. He finds the
former breadbasket of a continent entering a vortex of violent
chaos and famine. But his parents refuse to leave their home. Against
this backdrop, Godwin discovers a fifty-year-old family secret,
one which changes everything he thought he knew about his father,
and his own place in the world. Peter Godwin's powerful, moving
memoir describes dark times and dark aspects of human behavior
spanning two continents and half a century; it is a searing portrayal
of a son's effort to rescue his family, and a family's struggle
to belong in a hostile land.
