As you know I am something of a Doctor Who fan. In one of the episodes he faced creatures known as Stone Angels. Creatures who, when you looked away, crept up on you and before you knew it - zap! You were toast.
I now know the feeling! I briefly looked away and before I knew it it is the middle of February and two months since our last news update. Looks like the cyber version of the Stone Angels got me! Or I could just put it down to an increase in years at the onset of my dotage, but I think Stone Angels sounds a better excuse. Being a former BSAP member, old BS habits die hard, so I am sticking to my story.
With the recent events of regime change taking place in Egypt, many are wondering if such a thing is possible in Zimbabwe. From what I have read it certainly seems that the regime there is not leaving things to chance. What with the run up to elections, brutality and intimidation are on the increase already. I doubt that the Zimbabwe Army would be as restrained as their Egyptian counterparts. One day surely the people in that wonderful land will experience their freedom.
A special thanks to those of you who continue to support the Pensioner's Support Fund. Every penny goes a long way to helping these needy people.
I had the great pleasure of escaping the cold and snow this past month for a week in wonderful Cape Town, catching up with several old friends and comrades, some I haven't seen since our time in Morris Depot in 1970. I was able to spend a short time with General John Hickman who was visiting family. He is still going strong and lives in Harare, as does General Sandy McLean.
Sadly, more of our numbers are passing on and as time marches ever onwards, I am more and more appreciative for those years we spent in Rhodesia.
Finally, congratulations to the RLI Association - celebrating 50 years of the The Saints.
Thank you |
