Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
When I first heard the term The Dog Days of Summer, I had no real idea what they meant. Now three decades later I fully appreciate that term. When the weather is hot and humid, all one can do is lie around and pant like a dog! After a winter of record cold and snow, we are now having record heat, humidity and drought.
I look back through the ages to when we lived in Chiredzi and the heat that warmed the marrow in your bones., often with a matching humidity so thick it felt like I was swimming as I walked across the Police Camp to my office. How did we do it back then? These days, even with the help of central air conditioning it's all I can do to drag myself along. What a difference half-a-lifetime makes!
For the past four weeks I have sat glued to the TV watching the World Cup unfold in South Africa. Not only was it great to watch the world class soccer, but it was also great to see the event go off as planned. This was definitely a big win for S.A. and one for Africa!
Now I can't blame my sitting around watching TV in the middle of the day on the World Cup, I have to face up to the reality that I am not the young man I once was, but just feeling my age in the heat. Guess I might as well start making the most of it and see what happens!
Until next time
