Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
I remember as a lighty watching with rapt fascination the first episode of a new and wonderful show - Doctor Who! I never did look at a Police Box quite the same again and the old salt and pepper pots were just Daleks waiting in disguise to get us all. Now I am fast approaching my dotage and it still remains one of my favorite shows - a current version but still the same old Tardis and Daleks!
 |
There is a big difference between remembering time as it was and trying to live in it. I often get messages (usually with a nasty tone to them) to the effect "There will be no return to Rhodesia.!" Goodness me, what kind of world do these folk live in? We all know that it is history and life goes on and times change.
But history remains just that and memories are precious, despite what these Dalek-types say! |
 |
The first weekend in July is soon upon us. Here in the US we will be celebrating Independence Day, but for those who remember it is also Rhodes & Founders weekend. So just remember, to some it might be a barbeque, a barbie or a cookout, but to Rhodies it will always be a braai !
This afternoon the US Soccer team travelled back in time 60 years to the last time they played England in the World Cup, and again they didn't lose! I admit it, I am biased, but I still think the USA team out-played the England team! As for the South African game - they did Africa proud! It promises to be a good tournament.
Halfway through June already! My how time does fly these days! I could do with a Tardis about now. But, life goes on, yet the memories remain. We thank you for helping us keep those memories very much alive and helping keep alive those older members of our Community - the Pensioners who need our help.
A friend of mine was recently flying out of Bulawayo and at the airport was a couple in their 80's . They had been chased off their farm and were leaving the country with only what they could take on the plane with them! The Daleks of Africa had struck again! For these dear people, and so many others like them, there is a support network available and every penny you give helps. Thank you.
Until next time

PENSIONERS UPDATE
Memories of Rhodesia
is committed to supporting those old-age pensioners that are economic
prisoners in Zimbabwe. 10% of our revenue goes to this cause. Working
with Hope Unlimited, an established Christian organization, 100%
of all monies are channeled through them.
The funds are then donated
to various organizations, who are doing a great job caring for the aged. The reports
we get back from Zimbabwe are extremely encouraging, knowing that
we (and that includes you) have kept some of our dear old folk
