Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter

This month's News Update is a little slimmer than usual, please be patient with us as we experiment over the next couple of months with variations on the format. At the same time we would love to hear your ideas about the design and content of the Update. If there is some budding (or wilting) writer, designer, artist or web developer that would like to lend their hand then please let us know. We would love to have a dedicated Editor if anyone would be interested in the job!

Over the year we have been active in raising awareness of the plight of Pensioners, and thanks to your generosity have raised thousands of dollars. We were saddened to hear of the sudden tragic death of Norman Nimmo and his wife, who were killed in a road accident May 3. Norman was one of the driving forces behind The Zimbabwe Pensioners Relief Fund out of Mpumalanga, which we have reported on our Pensioners Update page. Norman will be missed, but the work will go on. Donations to help ZPSF can be made using the Paypal link on the Pensioners Update page.

As the African winter begins to exert its grip, it is quite the opposite here in Delaware. Those April showers are paying off with all the new growth taking place. My strawberry plants are beginning to bear their first fruits - trust me not all of them make it to the fruit bowl! They seem to disappear in the picking process.

May was an important milestone in our lives, for we were married May 9. This Sunday my wife and I celebrate 40 years. Is it my imagination, or are there a lot of marriages made in Rhodesia that have lasted many long years? Heck, we weren't perfect, but we just seemed to do some things a lot better than people in other countries. Maybe we still do?

The guys running the Rhodesians-Zimbabweans Worldwide Facebook group are excited at the large number of people who have joined. If you aren't already a member, then pay them a visit and join them today.

Until next time

PENSIONERS UPDATE

Memories of Rhodesia is committed to supporting those old-age pensioners that are economic prisoners in Zimbabwe. 10% of our revenue goes to this cause. Working with Hope Unlimited, an established Christian organization, 100% of all monies are channeled through them.

The funds are then donated to various organizations, who are doing a great job caring for the aged. The reports we get back from Zimbabwe are extremely encouraging, knowing that we (and that includes you) have kept some of our dear old folk alive.

The Rhodesian Community is unique. Connected through its common experience of a beloved country and loyalties, it still demonstrates that wonderful spirit of camaraderie and support. They are some of the friendliest, warm-hearted people the world has known.
