Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter

The leaves always seem to get deeper this time each year. It's not that I don't have many trees, it's just that they seem to produce more leaves every autumn than they did the year before.  More leaves means more work in cleaning them up before winter gets here.  Maybe as I get older the more averse to the hard work involved I become!  Whatever it is, once more the signs of another year drawing to a close are upon us.  Where did it go?

In putting together this month's newsletter I put together a brief look at events from Rhodesia that happened in November, from the Declaration of UDI to Lancaster House.  Thirty years have passed since those fateful days, yet how fresh they still seem to remain in ones memory.  So, just take a little wander down Memory lane and check out some of the headlines from November in Rhodesia.

I would like to thank all those who, throughout the past year, have supported the Pensioners Relief.  Thousands of Dollars have gone to help needy Rhodesian Pensioners.  Please be mindful of them and consider making a special donation so that this fast approaching Christmas can be enjoyed by them.

November 11 is but a few days away, a time to remember those who gave their lives for us all.  Around the world nations will honor their fallen, in many places there will be a Rhodesian representation, but there will be many more without one.  Let us stop on that day and remember our fallen.  "..at the going down of the sun, we shall remember them!"

Until next time

Dave Cushworth

PENSIONER'S UPDATE

Latest News from Zimbabwe

Memories of Rhodesia is committed to supporting those old-age pensioners that are economic prisoners in Zimbabwe. 10% of our revenue goes to this cause. Working with Hope Unlimited, an established Christian organization, 100% of all monies are channeled through them. The funds are then donated to SOAP, which is doing a great job caring for the aged. The reports we get back from Zimbabwe are extremely encouraging, knowing that we (and that includes you) have kept some of our dear old folk alive.

CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER - PLEASE REMEMBER THE PENSIONERS AT THIS TIME.  NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL.

FROM MEMORIES OF RHODESIA ... For Your Enjoyment

Band

THE LOST RECORDINGS
THE BAND OF THE B.S.A. POLICE

In 1978, Superintendent Derek Tasker, the Director of the BSAP Band, arranged for the Band to go into the studios of the African Service of the RBC and record a commemorative album of music. Sessions lasted no more than one hour at a time due to the air conditioning not being up to the task!

Supt. Tasker's son was killed in the Air Rhodesia Viscount Umniati disaster and momentum of the recordings stopped. No album was ever released and the whereabouts of the original recordings was unknown.

Now, thanks to Ron Wilken, the original RBC engineer, these recordings are now available for all to enjoy.
